Get Lost NCMO!

Well, I was looking at the Walton blog when I realized that I am listed as a contributor. I thought to myself, "How can I be a contributor if I haven't contributed?" So, I have decided to make my first contribution.

If you recall, one of the gifts that Kevin got me for my birthday was the right to burn his "Finding NCMO" t-shirts. (Editor's Note: NCMO is a Utah acronym meaning Non-Commital Make-Out) When I first told him that I wasn't very fond of those shirts he seemed surprised at the dislike. I asked him how he would feel if I wore a shirt around campus that said "available". I think that put things into perspective for him. As you can imagine, I was anxious to get the job done (the death by fire of the hideous shirts). You may think that burning the shirts would be a little extreme. Why not give them to DI or just throw them away? Well, I just couldn't risk the chance that they would find their way into some other innocent girl's fiance's hands and what if she didn't have a birthday before their wedding? He could end up wearing one to his bachelor party and then he would never be able to part with it! The shirts had to be annihilated.

The weekend after my birthday, I suggested we go up the mountain to have a bonfire...and since we had some extra room in the car, I made sure to accommodate the infamous shirts along with the lighter. I am sure they enjoyed the ride, but not as much as I did. We found the perfect spot, and started the perfect fire. The rest, I guess you could say, is history...especially the shirts. It was one of the most satisfying experiences of my life. "Kevin Walton, you will never find NCMO again. But, you'll never lose me:)"

Lost Party!

Here was our tribute to the end of the Lost season. We each picked a character and dressed up. Jamie was the mysterious French woman, Danielle Rousseau. I was the illustrious, yet also mysterious, Dr. Jack Shepherd. Enjoy.

This weekend Jamie and I were in L.A. to go through the temple with our friend Allana. It was a lot of fun. Jamie got to be her escort and it was our first time through the temple. For some strange reason, I could have sworn that the temple looked exactly like the Washington D.C. temple, so when I saw it I was really confused.

Allana lives just down the street from the temple. It's not the nicest area and she has to pay twice what we pay here in La Jolla! Nuts!

Anyway, here are a few pix:

Here's a pic I tried to get of the whole temple... Too bad the people are really small...

I'm really happy in this picture because I was starving and if you look closely, Jamie is handing me part of a cinnamon roll in a plastic bag...

I really don't know who Liberace is, and by this standup in their apartment, I don't really want to.

The infamous wink. Or the coordinated muscle spasm. You decide.

WOOHOO!!!!

Friends!

WE'RE OFFICIALLY ENGAGED!! WOOHOOLIHOOO!!! Well, here is the dealio, yo. I'll lay the story out for all y'all.

THE RING: I think most of you know the story of the ring, but I'll do a brief re-cap for those who don't. Rach and I went to the temple early in our relationship to see if we should in fact get married. So many blessings afterwards affirmed the incredible feeling we got in the temple, and one of those came when her mom called Rach and said that if we did indeed get married, that she had an idea for the diamond we could use. Rach's father had given Cheri (her mom) a necklace with five diamonds, representing their five kids. Cheri said she was giving one diamond to each of the kids in memory of their father, who has passed away. Cheri's husband, Dan, is a jeweler, so he asked me to send him some designs, and then he'd design the ring using my ideas. Here's what I sent him:

THE SETUP: Rach thinks she's getting old (probably because I bug her all the time cause she's just 20 days older than me) and she would joke with me saying that she wanted to get engaged before she turned 24, and that if I didn't propose before then, we'd just have to see. So with that in mind, I devised a plan . . .

Cheri was really good at helping me make Rach think that the ring wouldn't be done before her birthday. The best was on Monday, when she called to tell her that Dan had lost a part of the ring and that shey spent all night on the floor with flashlights looking for it. (It was actually true, but it helped convince Rach that there was no way it'd be done).

So last night, I went over to Rach's place at about 9:30 and we looked at hotels in SLC and wedding photographers on her computer until about 10:45, at which time I kissed her goodnight and went back to my apt, where I had to pick up a few things. Rach calls me every night before she goes to sleep, so I was counting on this, as I had since driven back to my place and had returned, waiting for her to go to sleep. After she called, I called her roomie, who let me in, and I set up her dining room table. So, then I hid in the kitchen and called her and said that I had taken her key earlier that day, and wanted to make sure that she had it for later. She sounded confused, so I said, "well, I'm outside your door, can I come in?" So she got up and opened her door and found this:

You can't really see it, but I have strawberry shortcake (her fave) with some sparkling cider. She looked . . . stunned? I had her sit down, and I explained to her that in my family, we have the tradition of opening one present the night before someone's birthday (which, of course, is not true, I just needed her to open one of the boxes). So I handed her one of them and she opened it, and I said, "Hey, babe, I'm sorry it's not what you're expecting, but I hope you like it anyway," to which she replied, "oh, it's fine, it's not a big deal." I had taped up the box pretty well, so I came over with scissors to help her open it, and when we got to the little box inside, I pulled it out, got down on one knee and asked her to be my wife. Again. (She had me ask her before I put the $8.99 Wal-Mart ring on her finger a week or so ago).

Rach never liked my "Finding NCMO" t-shirts.
So I gave them to her (along with a lighter) for her b-day.

Here's the ring:

Fun in Meridian!!

Hey, thought I'd put up some pics from last weekend with Grandma and Grandpa!

I think Rach liked Grandpa's malts. Or maybe she just liked Grandpa. :)

Ok, maybe she liked Grandpa and the malt . . .

Notice the statue that Grandpa got Rach for mother's day

Grandpa made us take his jelly beans . . .

. . . but we were OK with that . . .

Very Happiest of Mother's Days!!!!

I just wanted to thank everyone for your e-mails, cards and phone calls. They really meant a lot to me and I just want to let you know how grateful I am for each one of you and what a joy it is to be your Mom. I feel that I have learned so much from each one of you and I love you all so much. We went on a nice hike up Quicksilver and Jess was a trooper going up all of the way because she didn't feel very good and Eric carried up our picnic lunch without a complaint. In fact, he had a giant rock in his backpack on the way back and still had energy to burn. Your Dad and I were laughing about all of the energy that he has. We had a great time and it was a perfect day. We saw some deer on the trail, Jess and Eric picked beautiful wild flowers for me (no ranger yelling at them about picking wildflowers, Ems??!!!???) and Jess decided that she wanted to bring some wildlife home with her. She discovered that she had a tick and then a little later she discovered another one and so she was pretty grossed out. I don't think that I have ever seen a tick, but had always heard about them. Now, we all feel that we have ticks, but haven't found any others. At least it is better than you know the four letter word starting with "l", I don't think that I will mention the word because your Dad had freaked out so much about it, remember that??!!?????

Well, sending you all my love and thanks again for the bestest Mother's Day!!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME

So last night for my birthday we went to dinner and a few of the guys wrote me a poem and read it outloud at the end. i thought it was so sweet.... here it is-

Em’s Poem

Hey Em, what can I say
Today is one very special day!
You're experienced with RED BULL kept you up all night
Don't worry Em, it's nowhere in sight!

And although you like LOST, we can excuse
But to say it's better than ‘HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER’, that we refuse!
You still think that LOST is better than the rest
But I wrote this poem and SCRUBS is the best!

From the moment we met you to the day you sadly go away
You’ve left a mark on our lives and we hope you will stay!
You came here hoping to make a few friends
But we grew fond of you, and hope your trip never ends!

Unwritten Law, Foo Fighters and now Thirsty Merc
I asked you what bands you like and you gave me a shirk
I was trying to include them throughout this rhyme
But I couldn’t work out how to use ‘Enter Sandman’ and keep in time

You’ve experienced a lot since you’ve been here in Perth
And now we're all celebrating the day of your Birth
And for what it's worth...
You've been snorkeling in OZ at the bottom of the Earth!

You've enjoyed TFY, sand boarding and the Western force game
We hope one day you'll come back again
We've loved having you here, hope you feel the same
I can't believe you beat Brad at the sugar eating game!

Even though we’re here to eat smoked BBQ ribs
We'll do it the Aussie way so bring out the bibs!
While some people may ask for '20 Good Reasons'
Next time you come back, stay for all 4 seasons!

So happy 21st Emily
We hope it is great!
You're first Aussie Birthday
"Have a good one Mate!"

Although in a few weeks we shall part
You will always have a place here in our heart
Em. You are a gem!

HOW CUTE IS THAT? i will post some pics from my birthday soon..... thanks for all the love on my birthday everyone with the fun emails:)

¡Feliz Cumple, Emilia!

SMEMILY!

Happy birthday!! I miss you so much, Em, it was such a bummer that you weren't here when Rach and I came to CA, we really missed you!! Hope you are having an awesome time in Australia!!

Oh, and by the way, here's an ad I found of you, Emily, doing a little modeling on the side?

Why Life Is Great...

Life is great in the Jamie and Steve Walton home... Waffle night was a blast last night... Rick and Freddy showed up again. It was a smaller turnout then last time, but everyone there was just a ton of fun.

I have a midterm coming up tomorrow... Shouldn't be too hard... Jamie is doing great at her new job... Her bosses love her to death...

Summer's here in San Diego... It was really hot today... I even broke a sweat riding my bike to school!

Oh, and another reason life is great. Here is what I woke up to this morning after Jamie left for work. This was on the dining table:

Awesome.

Another awesome weekend . . .

Rach and I had another fantabulous weekend, we first went down to Manti to check out luncheon locations and stuff, and had time to do a session, the Manti temple is BEAUTIFUL . . . but, unfortunately, we couldn't take pictures inside, so we'll just put up some good ones from the outside:

And on Sunday, we had a huge Utah Walton get together (I had no idea there were so many of us out there!) It was a lot of fun to see everyone, Kelsey and Rick's baby, Judah, is pretty awesome. Good times had by all.

Wedding plans . . .

Hey, guys, just in case I didn't tell any of you:

The wedding date is now FRIDAY, July 27th at 11:15 AM in the Manti Temple, which means Rach and I need to be there at 10:15 and everyone else there at 10:45. Just thought you'd all want to know.

That is all! Love you guys!

-Kev
